OM
One of the oldest and most common mantras. A mantra is a phrase that is repeated until all other thoughts fall away and dissolve into it. In this way the mind becomes peaceful, steady and one pointed. it clears the mind of the distraction of thoughts. A visual mantra is done in a similar way. In addition to speaking it silently or out loud, it is written, drawn or painted repeatedly. Thus it becomes a visual mantra. A painting like this becomes a reminder of the mantra and the effects experienced from a mantra spiritual practice.

Layers of acrylic paint are added and removed to create the appearance of an ancient temple or monastery giving the painting a timeless feel. This is part of the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic that revers the beauty of the old, the worn, the impermanent that time has left its marks on.
